Coaches Corner:

Coach Catty--Welcome Swordfish to the 2024 summer season!! I am very excited to work with you all and can’t wait to see what amazing things everyone will accomplish! With that being said, our first meet is Monday June 3rd. This meet will not be run as the typical swim meet that you will see throughout the season. We want everyone to be able to see how a meet runs, what to do, where to go and all the ins and outs of a swim meet before we get to a “real” one. So, the meet on June 3rd will be labeled as a “fun” meet. There will be no opposing team, and the races won’t be scored. I highly recommend attending as it will be a lot of fun, very low pressure, AND there will be a treat at the end!

Coach Sam--Hey dive team! I am Sam Elliott. I am the head dive coach this summer. I am excited to get into the season! Morgan Le is the assistant coach, Will Spera is also an assistant, and Coach Rebekah will also be present whenever she can. For dive team, we will continue to have practices in the mornings from 9:30-11:30 throughout the year every Monday through Friday. This upcoming Monday for dive practice I will get ahold of divers (who are also on the swim team) to practice diving in between events for the swim time trials. As for dive meets, they are on Thursdays, before the swim meets. They will typically start at 4, with a warmupbeforehand (I will communicate the timing week to week). Everyone comes to the warmup, as it will be the only time to go through all of our dives. The dive meets start with 8 and unders and continues by age group with the older ages. Prior to each age group everyone gets to practice one dive again. During the meet, there will be an order of divers and they each do one dive at a time. Divers are required to have a certain number of dives to compete as well. 8 and unders need 2 dives, 9-10 need 3 dives, 11-12 need 4 dives, 13-14 need 5 dives, and 15 and up need 6 dives. (For the younger ages, forward and backwards jumps are okay, but that also prevents them from being a competition diver). Please let me know if you have any questions, or come to me at practice and I can answer them!
