Parent Volunteer Positions
Congrats - you are a swim/dive parent! In addition to cheering your child pool side, you also get in on the action. All families are asked to fill meet shifts (3 for swim and 1 for dive) and 1 social need - which could be supplies or volunteering time.
Meet Volunteer Positions
8 & Under Boys / Girls Parents: Volunteers for this job should be parents of 8 & under children. This job requires searching for kids, lining them up, and walking them to the starting blocks for each event. Parent volunteers will be assigned one lane that they organize all night. Great position for parents of younger kids who want to be able to watch their events up close.
9 & 10 Boys / Girls Super Parent: Volunteers for this job should be parents of 9 &10 children. This job requires searching for kids, lining them up, and walking them to the starting blocks for each event. Parent volunteers will be assigned one to two lanes that they organize all night. Great position for parents of 9 & 10 year old kids who want to be able to watch their events up close.
Announcer: Give the play by play account of the meet over the loud speaker. Also announce the upcoming events and who should be lining up for their event.
Dive Judges: Dive parents score the dives from an official looking table poolside. Work with fun flip scoring cards.
Dive Announcer: Introduce the divers and dives and read the scores. Use fun words like "pike" and "degree of difficulty" and "bingo."
Runners: Burn some calories at the meet while pushing aside wet swimmers. After each race you collect the lane slips poolside and walk them (or jog for more of a workout!) to the scorer's table. No experience required but waterproof shoes are a must!
Scorer / Ribbon Table: Join the volunteer team at a set of tables under a tent as they use their math skills to total the meet score - or just fill out the ribbons for the kids (no math required for this part). Socializing at the table, plus an actual seat can make this position fun. Best suited for parents of older swimmers who know how to get to their events on their own. Entire meet position.
Timers: No experience necessary - you will be given a clock and paired with a parent from the other team, then assigned a lane. This position is broken into halves of the meet because you are standing the duration of the job. We need LOTS of volunteers for this - plus back-up timers (for the occasional event that the timer misses a start). Good way to see races up close. Not ideal if you have young children that need attention.
Official Positions: The following jobs require official training at a clinic to become certified. A clinic is offered early in the season (look for updates on actual date) . Please consider attending - not only could we use the help, BUT also these jobs get a great view of the pool for each meet so you will be certain to see your kids swim up close! Official Positions include:
- Starter
- Recall Referee
- Stroke Judge
- Turn Judge
Grill Masters: Grill burgers and hot dogs on the deck all night. Nice way to escape the chaos of the pool deck.
Snack Bar: Work in the indoor snack tables collecting wet dollar bills from little kids loading up on sugar. Entire meet position.
Social Volunteer Positions
Each Swim and Dive Family needs to sign-up for one of these opportunities.
All Team Championship Breakfast: Bring food and help serve before the big meets. All Team Party: Need parents serve as Shaving Cream Masters, Food Coordinator, Games Organizers, Ice cream scoopers, and Chaperones.
Team Banquet: End of the year banquet opportunities to plan and coordinate a celebration for the team.
Friday Fun Day Breakfasts are held the FRIDAY mornings after meets. We need volunteers to drop off supplies (donuts, juice, fruit, and plates/cups/napkins) for each breakfast AND we need volunteer to set-up and serve each breakfast.
